Join us in Perth on 2-3 May 2023, for a two day training course on the ITAR, EAR and Australian Export Controls, taught from an Australian Perspective for both industry and Commonwealth staff.
Day One
Day one of this course will cover introductory information about U.S. and Australian export controls for both industry staff and Commonwealth personnel; our exercises and discussions aim to provide a solid foundation for the ability to manage defence assets between industry and defence. Our class exercises will include common scenarios when working with the Commonwealth, Primes and SMEs in managing ITAR and EAR controlled technology.Day one will be co-taught by Eva Galfi (ITA) and Zoran Franicevich (Thales Australia), who will provide an industry perspective, and Catherine Van der Winder (SAHR), who will provide the Commonwealth perspective on managing export controlled technology. The day will conclude with a panel on best practices with ample time for Q&A.

Day Two
The second day of this course will cover advanced topics related to managing assets subject to the ITAR and EAR. It is a unique opportunity to spend the day working through various business cases related to the management of export-controlled technology with fellow members of the Australian defence industry. It has been developed with the seasoned practitioner in mind and will cover common issues faced by Australian industry when handling ITAR and EAR controlled technology. Sessions include automation strategies, audits, TPRs and creating a compliance framework.Our second day will include a joint session for industry and Commonwealth staff, as well as a session with cases studies (led by Trudy Thorpe of NSM) discussing how complex issues were handled. We will conclude with an interactive roundtable.

About our Presenters
Register HereEva Galfi

Ms. Galfi specialises in assisting Australian companies with navigating the complexities of U.S. export controls, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
Ms. Galfi is an expert at translating U.S. and Australian export control requirements into achievable business practices for Australian companies. She is well-versed in designing and implementing trade compliance programs and providing practical and relevant training on export controls to Australian industry. In addition, Ms. Galfi assists her clients with conducting internal audits to identify compliance issues and drafting voluntary disclosures to government agencies.
Zoran Franicevich

He is experienced with the export compliance needs of various industries including defence, mining and aviation. Mr. Fanicevich is an experienced teacher and speaker and has been with Thales Australia since 2014, where he has been responsible for continual improvement of their trade compliance program.
Mr. Franicevich is also a co-editor of the Australian Best Practices Guide for the Management of Export Controlled Technology. He is passionate about training his staff on the requirements of the ITAR, EAR and Australian export controls.
Trudy Thorpe

Before her time in industry Trudy worked as a policy officer in the International Export Controls and Treaty (IECT) section as a public servant and absolutely loved her time there.
Supporting Defence areas and projects, managing the Treaty and being involved in international sales and the disposal of Defence technology meant that every day was busy, and no day was the same.
Trudy left Defence and went out to industry in 2021 to redirect her skills to other areas while still supporting Defence.
Catherine Van der Winden

Catherine brings a wealth of experience to her clients, having provided US export control advice and support across CASG and the wider Defence in a policy position as well as spending time embedded within a range of complex Defence projects. Catherine also diversified her experience by spending time working in Defence industry as an international trade/export control practitioner.
Tristan Then

Tristan has a Bachelor of Laws and Finance (double degree) from the University of Adelaide, is accredited as a Commercial and Contract Management Advanced Practitioner by the WCC (formerly IACCM).
