Export Control Trade Compliance Officer (AU and NZ)



Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that all projects and business support functions strictly comply with the requirements of the Australian, U.S. (ITAR, EAR), European and all other applicable export control rules and regulations
  • Ensuring compliance with import and export controls
  • Keeping the businesses informed regarding export control and global trade developments
  • Creating and maintaining procedures and instructions to comply with all applicable laws and regulations in the area of trade compliance
  • Ensuring that Project teams fully understand their access, re-export and transfer obligations
  • Assisting with internal compliance reviews and audits; and conducting spot checks on processes and trade compliance data integrity
  • Preparing periodic reports based on agreed set of KPIs
  • Conducting ad-hoc training to relevant staff on export control and global trade matters
  • Reporting non-compliance, corrective actions and impact to the Director Trade Compliance
  • Providing trade compliance oversight, solutions and recommendations in facilitating import and export activities, such as guidance on tariffs, Tariff Concession Orders, Free Trade Agreements, and maintaining compliance with the Australian Trusted Trader program and other Customs obligations

Essential Qualifications and Experience.

  • A current Australian security clearance at the requisite level or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience in interpretation and implementation of government policy.
  • Preferred Qualifications and Experience.

  • 3-4 years of experience in international trade compliance, export controls
  • Experience with Australian and U.S. export controls laws, and experience in overall compliance with facilitating import and export activities.
  • Tertiary qualifications in international commerce, economics, policy or international relations will be highly regarded, as will previous experience in the Defence industry in a trade/export control compliance role
  • To fulfil the role you will be able to:

  • Rapidly, interpret and implement trade compliance requirements across the UWS Portfolio
  • Prioritise tasks effectively
  • Ensure that projects have attained the required permits/license in support of tangible/in-tangible export and manage any changes to the authorisations accordingly
  • Ensure that trade compliance controls are implemented and operating effectively, propose and implement mitigation strategies for any non-compliance
  • Add value to the Thales Australia Trade Compliance network
